We recommend neutered males for pets. They are a great option if you don't want to milk, but would like to enjoy goat antics and have some grazers. Goats are herd animals and we never recommend having just one. It's for the health of the goat as well as the sanity of the goat keeper. If you are just getting started, ask if we have a free wether with purchase of doeling. These guys will be banded at the end of August.
We select goats in our breeding program for milk production. Dairying is a lot of work and we want to enjoy the fruits of our labor making cheese, yogurt, and ice cream! These girls will be ready to breed at one year old. We usually wait to breed until the December after their first birthday so that kidding happens in the warmer months of May/June. We have good producers and does will typically produce around a quart on their first freshening, but this can vary.
Coco Frost x Cowboy
Chocolate with blue eyes. Great conformation and dam has a great first freshening udder! Thinking I will retain this one.
Too many goats, too little time. Occassionally we have older does that we have invested in for sale. These are usually a great deal if you are ready to immediately start breeding or milking. Buck service can be added to an open doe for $50.
Although all of our goats have great genetic backgrounds, we only consider keeping the best boys intact. Bucks should be kept in a separate pen from your does to prevent unwanted breedings. This means you need more than one boy. Wethers make good companions for a buckling if you don't have multiple bucks. We give a discount on multiples.
